How to improve grip strength
Grip usually fails before the muscle does
On rows, pull ups and deadlifts, plenty of people stop the set because the bar is slipping rather than because their back has run out. That is a grip limit masquerading as a strength limit, and it caps what the rest of the movement can be trained with.
Three things that work
- Loaded carries. Thirty to sixty seconds at the end of a session, two or three times a week.
- Bar hangs. Thirty seconds at a time. A complete grip programme for most people, and it costs nothing.
- Hold the last repetition of your rows for a couple of seconds before letting go.
Use straps deliberately, not by default
Straps are a tool, not a moral failing. They let you train your back with a load your hands cannot yet hold. The problem is using them for everything, which guarantees grip never catches up. Do your first working sets without them, and reach for them only when grip is genuinely the thing ending the set.
If you want this built around what you are actually training, that is what one to one coaching is for.
